Folk Dances
Folk dance is a very simple and entertaining dance style that is popular in many parts of Sri Lanka. It mainly reflects the culture and lifestyle of the rural people. This type of dance is most commonly seen at village festivals, paddy festivals and riligious occasions. The Goyam dance, the Likeli dance, the Pathuru dance and Molgas dance are folk dances. Here dancers use simple costumes and musical instruments. Music and various musical instruments are used, for example, the tambourine and the ukulele. These dances have been passed down from generation to generation and have become an integral part of local festivals. It can be considered a cultural heritage of the people of Sri Lanka. Nowdays, it has also become more popular as a tourist attraction.
